AND SO WHAT!

AND SO WHAT?

Today in my office, a staff asked the hostess to sip from his can drink, and the gal exploded "I DON'T DRINK ALCOHOL!" and when she was asked why, she said it is wild girls that take alcohol and this got me smiling because when I was much younger, I used to be like that. I was so rigid with my principles, I don't shake hands with the male folks because I thought it was immoral, I don't allow male visitors to my house because I thought they might rape me, plus the fact that my parents would never allow such.

Even though I still don't take alcohol except palm-wine (and I am beginning to consider giving alcoholic wine a trial) I think there is a better way she would have said it, such as "No thanks, I don' feel like it" you know...so that you don't make yourself look like a saint. What if there was another lady around who takes alcohol and heard her saying that it is only for wild girls, the lady would have felt bad and that can make her reproach the hostess which might end up in a quarrel.
And so what if you don't do alcohol, or go to night club, or smoke, or do some other stuffs regarded "bad" in our culture? You don't have to make the other person who do any of these feel like a devil. Moreover, the most effective way to influence someone positively, is by getting closer to them, relating with them, finding out why they do what they do and helping them curb their bad habit(s).

  1. For me i don't take anything alcohol even that palm wine and Burukutu that are natural i don't take either both of them, but that doesn't make me holier than those that are taking it. I don't stay away from them i do mingle with them even Igbbo (Marijuana) smokers because i do something that's worsted than that. The lady should have just say no just like what the poster said.
